What should I do after a car accident? | Do Not Sign Off on Medical Releases

In this 5-part blog series, Denver car accident attorney Dan Foster lists the five biggest mistakes a person can make after being injured in a car accident.

#4: Signing Off on Medical Releases from the Responsible Party’s Insurance Company

The responsible party’s insurance adjustor will send you a letter asking you to sign a medical release from HIPAA. Signing any medical release without first consulting an attorney is a huge mistake.

Just like with providing a recorded statement, you have no obligation to sign any type of authorization form – or have any communication with the insurance company at all, for that matter.

If you receive a letter asking you to release your medical records, you can either politely decline or simply throw the notice away.

Before signing any documentation from an insurance company, contact the Colorado personal injury attorneys at Foster Graham for a free consultation.
